Dont Hit the Panic Button! - UGA Undergraduate Admissions

Dont Hit the Panic Button! - UGA Undergraduate Admissions Dont Hit the Panic Button! There is a scene from Animal House, where Kevin Bacons character, Chip Diller, is shouting Remain Calm! All is well!, while a panicked mob crushes him as it runs away from a parade gone mad. This is how I feel about this time of year. And at times, the end result is the same, with both of us trampled on the sidewalk, gasping for air. During the two weeks surrounding a deadline, life is hectic in all admissions offices. Applications are swarming in, materials are delivered to us in large mailing bins, emails are flying through our computers, and the lights on the phones are always glowing, showing us the incoming calls. And almost every one of those emails or phone calls is about one thing, Is it there yet? Why isnt it there yet?. The best thing for everyone to do during this time is to remain calm and dont panic. Give UGA (and any other colleges to which you are applying) time to dig out from the onslaught of materials. For our office, I expect that a majority of items that are sent by the deadline will be matched up by about January 27th or so. The one exception I give is if a student applied by using a paper application, as this slows down the process a great deal. So be patient, make sure that the materials were actually sent and have your correct name on them, and relax. Also remember that if multiple items were mailed in together, our office splits things up based upon what they are (transcripts, teacher recs, etc.) for quicker imaging and processing, so if one thing shows up as received and one does not yet, remain calm. And just so you know, our status check is not real-time, but it is updated every night, and I have requested that our technology team also update it every afternoon so students can see more current information. This means you do not have to check it twenty times a day. Go Dawgs, and remain calm ( I just had to say it one more time!).

Significance Of Matriarchal Societies A Woman s Honor...

Sumiya Monaf Professor Badalato ENG1100C December 13, 2015 Significance of Matriarchal Societies in Tales A woman’s honor and reputation differs from culture to culture. In many cultures, women are expected to only bear children and become housewives. Some women are only allowed to work in certain fields that might only be permissible for what â€Å"women† would be capable enough to handle. Women until this day earn just 78 cents for every dollar a man earns. What must this go to prevail? One can only say that even today in our own modern society, we see clashes between the province of different sexes and tension between gender equality. Our social systems are divided into two norms, Matriarchal and Patriarchal. A matriarch is defined as a woman who is the central figure for her family, group, and or political administration. The term for males is the patriarch, a male who dominates his family, group, and his descendants. Both societies are reciprocal to one another; however, due to cultural belief the matriarchal society still falls under the shell that women are â⠂¬Å"soft† and â€Å"need support† from no one other than a male authoritative figure. In this paper, I will claim how many tales exemplify women to be these inferior characters who are abided into such gender bias stereotypes. Issues such as oppression, sexism, misogyny, and rape are all aspects that objectify the female society, which allows for misconceptionsShow MoreRelatedEssay about Exploring Women’s Role in the Bible2400 Words   |  10 PagesThe stories about women in the bible illustrate the importance of their role and contribution to society. The Causes And Effects Of Computer Literacy - 940 Words

As someone with extensive computer literacy, I understand the importance of being able to be efficient with the use of computers. Whether it is at school, or at the workplace, the struggles and inefficiency I see people have with computers results in a lot of wasted time and effort. The internet, and computers, play such a giant role in the day-to-day life of human beings that if computers were all wiped out tomorrow, humans would have a very difficult time in adapting to life afterwards. Individuals that do not have the proper computer literacy in 2017 will be at a significant disadvantage among those who are computer literate. In this essay, I will highlight some of the causes of computer illiteracy and how it effects people’s lives.†¦show more content†¦Be that as it may, someone will have to be going through some rough times to not be able to afford a computer and internet service but it does not mean that there aren’t people out there living with this real ity. Not being able to find a job to help pay for it, or not being able to attend a college to better the situation are some of the possible consequences of being computer illiterate in 2017. Having flexibility with time is beneficial for someone with financial struggles when he or she is trying to balance work life with school life. Consequently, not having good computer skills will restrict the student from taking online classes that will allow flexibility with his or her work schedule. With 3 children, I find this to be a great benefit and plan on taking online courses for any course that allows it. There are people out there that just are not attracted to using computers and other types of technology. These people typically enjoy being outside, and work blue collar jobs that require little computer use. There is no need to operate a backhoe or bobcat with a computer yet. Shovels, screwdrivers, and hammers aren’t plugged into keyboards either. A part of me envies their ability to stay away from technology, because it does consume such a big part of people’s lives that it is hurting the connection humans have with each other. Psychology Ia Notes Free Essays

Psychology Summer Assignment 2011 Due first class back in August/ September: Draft of Introduction and Design of Psychology Experiment. HL Psychology: IA is graded out of a score of 28. It is worth 20% of your final grade. We will write a custom essay sample on Psychology Ia Notes or any similar topic only for you Order Now 1500-2000 words SL Psychology: IA is graded out of a score of 20. It is worth 25% of the Final Grade. 1000-1500 words Refer to the IB Guide for First Exams in 2011 as you write your paper, and keep in contact with me. Here is a website from which you can download the Psychology Guide: http://www. bsurvival. com/files/file/1134-psychology-guide-for-first-examinations-in-2011/ Here are the parts of the IA that you must submit in our next class in August: Introduction (5 points HL; 2 points SL)) Method: Design (2 points for SL and HL) Method: Participants (2 points for SL and HL) Method: Procedure (2 points for SL and HL) Key advice: NUMBERS: Make sure that you choose an experiment that has results that can be measured on a broad scale. So observers in Bandura were not told to rate violence on a â€Å"yes† or â€Å"no† basis, but to count the number of violent acts; Milgram had many intervals on his â€Å"shock machine† that enabled him to measure and compare statistics about what point people would drop out at; Loftus and Palmer asked participants to estimate speeds in miles per hour, as opposed to â€Å"were they going fast or slow. † You will be calculating statistics and showing trends. The more detailed the numbers, the more you can say about them. And nearly half of your IA grade will be based on what you do with these numbers. ETHICS: Refer closely to the Guide as you prepare. PARTICIPANTS: there are many characteristics of participants that can be considered confounding variables. You should know your experiment well enough to avoid these. DESIGN: Repeated measures or independent samples. The answer to which one you choose is always logical, but you must show that you understand the logic. METHOD: It must be possible for the reader to replicate your study based on what you write. A word of encouragement: You should be carefully selecting the experiment that you will replicate over the summer. I have asked for a draft of the first parts of the paper to get you to start writing in the IA style. If you over the summer you find that you cannot write about your experiment, you will still have time to choose another one. I will be available throughout the summer through emails, and at times through Moodle, so keep in touch. The IB says that you must have 30 hours (SL) and 40 hours (HL) of class time devoted to the IA. I prefer to use this time to work on how to do the experiment, express the results, debate the conclusions. But for that, you need to get through the simplest processes on your own. Every one of you is capable of a grade of â€Å"5† if you are diligent. And once you know you have an IA grade of â€Å"5,† you’ll have renewed confidence and motivation to get through the final months of the course. Due Dates: First Draft (all parts) by October 20 (last class before the Toussaint break) Papers will be returned with comments and advice after the Toussaint. Final Draft: IB and Ermitage approved deadline is December 10. This information can also be found on your Moodle Y1 Psych site. How to cite Psychology Ia Notes, Papers

Great Disappointment free essay sample

Mid-summer blues guided me indoors, for a much needed cool down from the blistering hot sun that cast upon the entire backyard. No where could I escape the humid July heat better than the air conditioned sanctuary I called home. I lazily pranced through the back door slowly making my way to the kitchen. As I opened the old leaking refrigerator, I felt a blast of cold air hit my face. With a newly added bounce in my step and a cup of ice cold water in hand I headed off to my father’s room. I secretly knew that he would be propped up in his new black leather office chair listening to NPR. With a blast of energy I opened the wooden door. My excitement dwindled away. The light was off and his black tennis shoes were gone. I was extremely disappointed to find a disserted bedroom. My mind quickly raced away. The idle television and freshly made California king size bed called my name. I had big plans in my little mind, I had came to the conclusion that it would be the perfect chance to kick back and relax like the grown folks do. I crawled up and sprawled out on the lush mattress. With my long sun-bleached hair fanned out over the pillow I felt as if I was on top of the world. As I cooled down in style my energy began to bottle up. Before I knew it my idea of relaxation turned into a party. I was jumping high into the air. Each bounce added more exhilaration. I soon lost all control, I was about to break one of the all time rules: Never, under any circumstances open the small wooden box on my father’s headboard. I never knew what great treasure it held. Though at that point in time I was ready to find out. Just as I plopped down on the bed and placed my hands on the sides of the wooden box my father walked in. The bl ue handmade comforter now covered the floor. Pillows were scattered around the room and I was doing the unthinkable. I held in my hands his wooden box. He did not have to say one word. I was already well aware of the disappointment my Father’s piercing blue eyes burned into me. Just as fast as the wonderful idea came, it was gone. I placed the box back onto the headboard where it belonged and began to fix the disarray I had caused. Still to this day I can tell when my father is disappointed by looking into his aging eyes.
